Diana Schultz, Chief Executive Officer
Diana Schultz serves as the chief executive officer of Weslaco Regional Rehabilitation Hospital in Weslaco, Texas. As CEO, Schultz oversees the operations, strategy, and clinical leadership of this 31-bed physical rehabilitation hospital. She brings over 18 years of healthcare administration and leadership experience to the organization. Most recently, Schultz was the Market CEO for a 40-bed critical care hospital and 30-bed acute physical rehabilitation hospital in Mesquite, Texas. Prior to hospital leadership, she spent years working with diverse populations in social services and human resources.
Schultz holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio, and a master’s degree in public administration from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi.
Dr. Adam Muffler, Medical Director
Dr. Muffler is originally from Colorado. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2017 followed by a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center which he completed in 2021.
Dr. Muffler’s clinical interests include general medical rehabilitation (especially COVID-19), strokes, amputations, spasticity, and spinal cord injury. Other professional interests include patient education, transitions across various levels of care, providing cost-effective healthcare.
He is a father of four children who is heavily involved with their sports and extracurricular activities and can frequently be found with them at parks.
Dr. Juan David Asuaje, Associate Medical Director
Dr. Asuaje is passionate about helping individuals whose lives have been affected by disabilities caused by injuries, illnesses, or chronic medical conditions.
Board certified in family practice medicine, Dr. Asuaje brings more than 17 years of healthcare experience to his role. His extensive medical background includes family practice, general surgery, emergency care, transitional medicine, pediatric services, and rehabilitation.
Dr. Asuaje earned his medical degree in Caracas, Venezuela, from the Universidad Central de Venezuela Escuela de Medicina Jose Maria Vargas. He completed a family medicine residency at Earl K Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge, La.
Dr. Asuaje is a member of Texas Medical Association. When not working, he can be found cycling with his friends and enjoying outdoor activities with his family.
Rita Mata-Guerrero, Market Director of Nursing Operations
Rita’s passion for nursing and excellent patient care has been instrumental in the hospital’s excellent nursing outcomes. As a nurse for 24 years, Rita has plenty of hands-on experience serving patients and their families in rehabilitative care, management and obstetrics.
Rita has had great opportunities to advance in her career and help build a strong nursing team – one that she is proud to be a part of. She states, “I love having the ability to apply best practices in nursing and educating my staff so that they can provide quality care to the patients served.”
Rita earned an associate degree in nursing from the University of Texas at Brownsville and a Bachelor of Science in nursing and Master of Science in nursing with a concentration in nursing administration from The University of Texas at Arlington. She is a certified rehabilitation registered nurse and a member of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses. She is also a member of the Nursing Advisory Committee for the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley, Texas Southmost College and Texas State Technical College.
Rita loves to spend time with her family, as her twin boys fulfill her life beyond words.
Landy Mendoza, Director of Patient Outcomes
Landelina is committed to the well-being of the patient. She brings that same compassionate commitment to supervising and directing the case management staff.
After teaching for nine years, Landelina made a career change to occupational therapy because she wanted to make a difference for patients who were recovering from disabling impairments. Now, Landelina has transitioned into case management as well and is still happy with her decision.
“It’s fulfilling to help a patient and their caregivers prepare for their return to the community,” she says. Landelina lives the quote, “Patients First!” as she believes there’s no better guide to directing each decision made daily when assisting patients.
Landelina earned a bachelor’s degree in business development in 1994 from Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas and maintains a lifetime teacher certification. She also earned a Master of Occupational Therapy in 2008 from the University of Texas – Pan American in Edinburg, Texas. She is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association; certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy; and is also certified by the Commission for Case Manager Certification.
In her spare time, Landelina spends time with her family and her dogs and supports Future Farmers of America and youth sports programs in her community.

Art Gutierrez, Director of Plant Operations
Art brings more than 20 years of experience to his work in overseeing the hospital’s everyday maintenance to ensure the safety of the hospital’s physical building.
Art earned an associate’s degree in applied science at Texas State Technical College, Harlingen, Texas, and then proceeded to earn another associate’s degree in respiratory therapy at Independence University online.
Art is married and enjoys fishing.
Faith Escobar, Director of Marketing and Business Development
Faith is a business development and marketing professional that brings years of healthcare care experience to Weslaco Regional Rehabilitation Hospital. Armed with passion and dedication, she plays an integral role in growing the business, establishing relationships, and advocating for patients of the RGV.
Faith earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and a master’s degree in business management from St. Mary’s University. After completing her education in central Texas, she relocated to her hometown in the RGV. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, sports games, traveling, and spending time with her husband and three children.
Carol Ybarra, Administrative Supervisor
Carol brings more than 20 years of experience in administrative work to Weslaco Regional Rehabilitation Hospital. She has extensive knowledge in healthcare administrative operations and loads of experience overseeing staff’s daily activities. Carol has been employed with WRRH for five years and counting.
She was born and raised in the RGV and takes pride in serving the patient population that she grew up close to. In her free time, she enjoys BBQ’s and spending time with her son and her family.
David Castro, Director of Pharmacy
Born and raised in Corpus Christi, David attended the University of Texas at Austin completed his studies and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy. He successfully passed his State Board Exams in 1983 and this March he will celebrate his 40th year practicing pharmacy. In May of 2002 he completed his studies at the University of Texas Pan American, now UTRGV, and received a Master of Business Administration Degree.
He has spent most of his 40 years in pharmacy working in the hospital setting. In that setting he has been a staff pharmacist, clinical pharmacist and director of pharmacy. David took on the role of director of pharmacy/consultant in 2005 for then-Weslaco Rehabilitation Hospital and in 2015 when Weslaco Rehabilitation Hospital became Weslaco Regional Rehabilitation Hospital he has continued in the role of director of pharmacy.
David was also an instructor at South Texas College in their pharmacy technician program for five years (2012-2017), has ventured into working also in the retail pharmacy setting and is still active as a pharmacy consultant to a variety of healthcare settings throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Roxie Correa, Director of Therapy Outcomes
Ms. Correa an Eagle Pass, TX native, has always been patient driven and has stopped at nothing to ensure her patients are treated with the best individualized treatments, and up to date strategies and techniques. Her passion for intervention has led her to create unique therapeutic sessions based on patient preference, in order to facilitate functional and enjoyable intervention. She has gained her experience working across the state of Texas; treating a wide variety of age groups ranging from early childhood to geriatric patients.
She earned her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Communication Disorders from Texas A&M International University and graduated from New York University with a Master’s Degree in Communicative Science and Disorders. She is credentialed by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association and is an active member of the Texas Speech-Language and Hearing Association. With nearly 10 years of experience in the field of speech language pathology, Ms. Correa continues to strive for excellence by obtaining certifications to better enhance patient outcomes and ensure their goal of independence.
In her spare time, Ms. Correa enjoys studying music, foreign languages, and spending time with her two dogs.
Sam Teel, Clinical Compliance Specialist
Sam Teel serves as the Clinical Compliance Specialist of Weslaco Regional Rehabilitation Hospital in Weslaco, Texas. As the Clinical Compliance Specialist, Teel oversees the quality, risk, and patient safety of this 32-bed facility. He brings over 30 years of healthcare experience to the organization. Recently, Sam was the medical program manager for the Southwest Sector of Texas for the border patrol. Sam has prior hospital leadership experience and years working with diverse populations across the U.S.
Sam Teel holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing administration from West Haven University. He is certified in patient safety, risk management, and has a black belt in lean six sigma in healthcare.
